Trees live lives we rarely slow down enough to notice.
Above ground, they stand still ~ patient, generous, offering shade without asking anything in return. But beneath our feet, there is movement, conversation and care ♡
Trees are not solitary beings.
Their roots weave together through vast underground networks, linked by fungi. Through these networks, trees share nutrients. They send warnings.
They support the young, the injured, the struggling. When one tree is sick, others quietly redirect resources. When danger arrives, messages ripple through the soil.
This isn’t metaphor. This is ecology!
Trees recognise kin. Older trees ~ sometimes called “mother trees” ~ prioritise their seedlings, feeding them through the dark until they can reach the light on their own.
Forests survive not because trees compete, but because they cooperate.
And trees give us breath ~ literally!
Through photosynthesis, they take in what we exhale and return what we need to live. Every breath we draw is part of an ancient exchange between human lungs and green leaves.
Oxygen is not a background detail of life ~ it is a gift, renewed quietly, endlessly, by forests we too often overlook.
And somehow, our bodies know this (how cool right?!)
Time spent around trees lowers stress hormones. Heart rates slow. Nervous systems chill. Even brief contact ~ walking through a park, touching bark, breathing forest air ~ has measurable effects on mood, immunity & mental clarity.
Trees release compounds that calm us. Our lungs respond. Our minds exhale.
Perhaps this is why hugging a tree never feels ‘silly’ once you do it.
Perhaps your body remembers something your thoughts forgot.
Trees teach us how to live together without noise. How to grow without rushing. How to support without being seen.
So plant a tree ~ even if you’ll never sit in its shade. Care for roots you cannot see.
Trust that connection is doing its work beneath the surface ♡
Strength doesn’t always stand alone. Sometimes it stands together ~ breathing life into the world…..quietly…..one leaf at a time 🌳
Love from one tree~hugging hippie to another…….Rain xx
